In 2010, Julie and her husband, Brogan de Paor, started the Los Angeles Activist Video Archive, filming long-form oral histories with LA-based activists. I Write Your Name features archival footage spanning geographies and time, showcasing how art and culture play influential roles in movements for human rights and justice. "Francisco's personal story is a microcosm of a larger movement for human rights, and his art is a testament to the enduring human spirit," said Julie Thompson. "We believe the film will resonate with audiences who are thinking about how art inspires change." "Telling this story is particularly urgent given the rise of political polarization globally," added Brogan de Paor. "His message—of healing through remembrance, action, and imagination, even when it's difficult—can guide us as we move into a time of resistance to authoritarian regimes. 'At a time when immigrants and others around the world and within the United States defend human rights and are subject to political violence, culture and imagination are an unshakable form of resistance.' Francisco Letelier The documentary features expert voices in art, history, and culture, including musician Jackson Browne and Chilean artist Rene Castro, who provide context and analysis.
