As World War I rages on, a choral group in the Yorkshire small town of Ramsden faces their own struggles. After losing most of their choir (and their choirmaster) to the army, the ambitious choral committee takes a chance on the mysterious Dr. Henry Guthrie (Ralph Fiennes). As the conscription papers begin unsettling the peaceful town, the choir finds their purpose providing music and hope to the fearful community.
