Toronto’s celebration of fan culture and cosplay returned for another year on March 14 to 16, 2025 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, which brought in exciting celebrities, events, vendors and a wonderful place to show off cosplay.
There were plenty of things to do for the entire family, from celebrity signings, cosplay red carpets, gaming and comic-related panels, to other attractions that kept everyone entertained. The year’s Comicon featured the cast of The Boys and Supernatural.
Throughout the weekend, the cast of the Prime Video series The Boys broke into multiple panels, with Colby Minifie and Valorie Curry kicking it off on Friday; Antony Starr and Jessie T. Usher (right) on Saturday; and Karl Urban, Tomer Capone, Laz Alonso and Karen Fukuhara ending the panels on Sunday. The cast spoke about the show, which is currently filming the fifth and final season in Toronto. While they couldn't discuss what to expect in the upcoming season, they all had fond memories and appreciated the fans' support of the show.
The Supernatural cast was split into two panels with Ruth Connell, Jim Beaver and Alexander Calvert (left) speaking on Saturday. Jim Beaver showed his love for Canada, coming in with “Elbows Up!” He revealed that he only expected to be on a few episodes and wound up being on the show for 15 years.
Calvert, who joined the show late, said that he was teased a lot by the cast members, noting how when he was invited to dinner with the cast, he went to pay, and Jared Padalecki (seen at top left) cut his credit card in half, telling him his money was no good there.
In the last panel for Supernatural, Mark Sheppard expressed his appreciation to the fans, calling them family because the way everyone treats each other, it is very much like a family. There was high praise from both about the crew of Supernatural, who were mostly Canadian, revealing how hard they worked and supported them during the show, which sometimes got very dark and heavy.
Other panels included Vancouver's own Manny Jacinto (right), star of Disney+'s Star Wars: The Acolyte and NBC’s The Good Place, as well as Buffy the Vampire Slayer's James Marsters.
Comicon is a great start to get ready for Fan Expo Canada, happening in August. So many happy memories were made, and fans will have something to hold them over until August comes, when they will meet and celebrate again. ~Article and photography by Joanne Chu-Fook
