The newest Marvel movie, Thor: Love and Thunder starring Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman, debuted at the top of the box office over the weekend. The film took in a mighty $143 million in its first three days, marking the highest opening of the Thor franchise and the third-highest pandemic era opening, behind Spider-Man: No Way Home ($260 million) and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ($187.4 million).
Last weekend's champ, Minions: The Rise of Gru was pushed to second place. The animated adventure comedy starring the voice of Steve Carrell as Gru took in an additional $45.6 million for a total of $210 million.
Top Gun: Maverick, starring Tom Cruise, dropped to third place taking in an extra $15.5 million for a seven-week total of $597.4 million.
Elvis, starring Austin Butler in the title role and Tom Hanks as his manager Colonel Tom Parker, finished in fourth place earning another $11 million for a three-week domestic total of $91.1 million.
Finally, the star-studded Jurassic World Dominion dropped one spot to fifth place, taking in an additional $8.4 million for a five-week total of $350.3 million.
