Despite dropping a steep 68% in its second weekend in theatres, Thor: Love and Thunder fended off three newcomers with ease to remain at the top of the box office. The latest Marvel film, which stars Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman, took in an additional $46 million for a total domestic gross of $233.3 million.
Minions: The Rise of Gru stayed comfortably in second place this weekend. The family-friendly origin story of Despicable Me's Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) took in another $26 million for a three-week total of $262.6 million.
Based on the best-selling novel of the same name and starring Daisy Edgar-Jones, Where the Crawdads Sing debuted in third place with a better than expected $17 million.
Top Gun: Maverick, starring Tom Cruise, dropped from third to fourth place taking in an extra $12 million for an eight-week total of $618 million.
Elvis, starring Austin Butler in the title role, was pushed to fifth place, earning another $7.6 million for a three-week domestic total of $106.2 million. ~Megan Parsons
