What was once one of the most popular shows on television, The Ellen DeGeneres Show has seen a steep decline in ratings since its return from hiatus in September.
Although this season's first episode had the highest ratings the show has seen in four years, viewership quickly dropped afterwards. The recent drop in viewership is reportedly a result of the toxic workplace scandal that hit the news when Buzzfeed released an exposé in July 2020, talking about the poor treatment current and former employees had experienced while on set, including "racism, fear, and intimidation" while working for Ellen DeGeneres.
According to a report in the New York Times, Nielsen data shows that the talk show lost half of its regular viewership -- over 1 million viewers this season, dropping from its average 2.6 million viewers down to 1.5 million. This has also led to a loss of revenue. According to the Kantar research firm, from September to January of the 2019-2020 season, the show earned $131 million from advertisers. In comparison, for the same time period of the 2020-2021 season, the show brought in $105 million, $26 million less than the previous season.
While The Ellen DeGeneres Show formerly competed with popular shows such as Dr. Phil (2.5 million viewers) and Live with Kelly and Ryan (2.6 million viewers), the recent drop in numbers now has the talk show on an equal status to newcomers The Kelly Clarkson Show (1.3 million viewers), and Tamron Hall (1.1 million viewers). This is quite a fall from grace, as The Ellen DeGeneres Show has been running since 2003 with 18 seasons under its belt, in comparison to The Kelly Clarkson Show and Tamron Hall, which both released in 2019, and completed only two seasons.
With the drastic drop in viewership and revenue, the question has been raised as to whether the Daytime Emmy Award winning program will continue much longer. The show has been given the green light to produce a 19th season, but Ellen's contract concludes at the end of next year.
Although the future of the show is unclear, Ellen still has her deal with WarnerMedia to fall back on, to produce four programs for HBO Max including a design show and a dating show. ~Sean Olegario

Although I have not been a fan of this sugar coated feel good show or her,seems like she created this fail after her mistreatment of staff.Staff will brag you up if you treat them with respect and not just perks and bonuses.However your living in a glass bowl and everything can be seen.Just because your successful does not mean you go all Diva and treat your people like crap.A show is not just the star, but everyone making it successful.If she was the way reported towards her staff and people,poison workplaces are horrid to be at.If she did it then eventually no amount of money thrown at it will keep it on top.It will crash and burn because of her & her alone.Have respect and gratitude for those who raised your star or come falling to earth.Personally my not liking her has nothing to do with being gay,but that her comedy seems forced or scripted and not suited for her.Some comedians have natural talent, but allowing others to write what you would not say yourself can come across as unsuited.
So much of the content of her shows is about throwing paint, water or whatever else she's got going and then laughing at them. That tells you something about her right there!! I for one am seriously tired of those reoccurring segments. It tells you something about Ellen especially when she makes another game show about dunking people in water or work liquid crap: not funny or kind. Maybe those rumors about her speak the truth -- time for a change. Kelly Clarkson is positive, warm hearted and delivers variety and not at the expense of others!
Innocent until proven guilty. Shamed by the cancel culture, and snowflake employees. You are there to do a job for which you are paid for. Ellen is your boss period, and very very few employees have anything nice to say about their bosses. Let It Go, Get Over It, Move On
I remember years ago, even before she came out, Ellen was my favorite comedian. Since then, she has promoted makeup that tests on animals which goes completely against her alleged Persona to not hurt animals. Also, I love President Trump and she hates him so I never watched the show because I couldn't stand when she put him down. Meanwhile, President Trump made it a felony for the first time in history, that if you hurt an animal it was considered a felony, not a misdemeanor. I love that about President Trump. I don't know how she treats her employees, she always seems to be very nice to everybody so I don't know if it's true or a rumor, also it's very easy for employees to get mad at a boss for not giving them a raise or a promotion they could be ganging up on her I don't know. But she was a little bit too horrible politically against the best president we've ever had in history. I hope everybody enjoys gas going up to five and six dollars a gallon who voted for him.
This case , true or not, reminds me of the former Governor General of Canada.. Someone with power and money looking down to the common people..Lesson learned..
