Terrifier 3 scares away weekend box office competition

Terrifier 3 tops the weekend box officeTwo new movies made the top five at the weekend box office. Scroll down to see which ones -- as well as the films from last weekend that stayed around.

Terrifier 3, which features a frightening clown on Christmas Eve, opened with $18.3 million in its debut weekend.

The Wild Robot remained in second place, earning another $13.5 million for a three-week total of $83.7 million.

Last weekend's top movie, Joker: Folie à Deux starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, dropped to third place at the box office with an additional $7.06 million for a two-week total of $51.6 million. Click here to read our review.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice starring Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Jenna Ortega dropped a spot to fourth, earning an additional $7.05 million for an impressive six-week total of $275.6 million. Click here to read our review.

Rounding out the top five this weekend was Piece by Piece, which details singer Pharrell Williams’ life story through the lens of LEGO animation. It took in $3.8 million.
