In the brand new teaser trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, we meet a young rebel named Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones). We're told the young woman has been on her own since she was 15, and she's guilty of forgery of Imperial documents, possession of stolen property, aggravated assault and resisting arrest. At least, that's what she's being told. Jyn takes it all in with a grain of salt as she shoots a look at an unnamed fighter (Diego Luna) standing behind her.
Jyn is offered a role on a team that's undertaking a dangerous mission. They want intel on a major weapons test, and then they want it destroyed. She's not given a chance to decline, she's just asked, "Is that clear?" Jyn wisely responds, "Yes, sir," but from the look in her eyes, she's not about to mutely obey their every word. This girl has a trick or two up her sleeve.
Next, we hear sirens sound as Jyn, wearing an official outfit that includes a gun on her hip, and the fighter walk side-by-side, presumably embarking on the mission. Then Forest Whitaker appears onscreen. Possibly her mentor, he asks: "What will you do when they catch you? What will you do if they break you? If you continue to fight, what will you become?" We also catch a first glimpse of dark-armored soldiers that some have speculated to be Shadow Troopers, who are even more dangerous than Storm Troopers (although there are plenty of those to be seen as well).
The final shot is of Jyn in a black suit with the Imperial insignia on her right arm, which raises plenty of questions. Is she a rebel who's undercover? Is she a turncoat? Or was she only posing as a rebel in the first place?
The cast also includes Ben Mendelsohn as an Imperial leader, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk and Riz Ahmed. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens in theaters on December 16, 2016. Are you as excited to see this as we are?
