Star Trek: Beyond director Justin Lin says his film will move away from the previous two Star Trek films directed by J.J. Abrams.
Lin told Collider that he plans to change the film's visual style. J.J. Abrams is known for his lens flares and bright lighting, while Justin Lin promises a different tonality. While Lin is mostly known for his work in the Fast and the Furious franchise, he says he is a Trekkie at heart and is excited about showing audiences some never-before-seen interactions between the characters.
Lin also spoke briefly about the new villain Krall, played by Idris Elba. Krall will challenge the very philosophy of the Federation and what it stands for, and will be unlike any villain we've seen before. Lin also teased a big-budget action sequence about a quarter into the film. This sequence sets the rest of the film on what lead actor Chris Pine has called a "roller coaster ride."

Stoked to see what he will do with the franchise. Everyone's got their own style. Look at Leondard Nemoy's Voyage Home installment. Which was the best of the old flicks. Then see Shatner's direction for The Final Frontier. Vastly different. I'd like to see what Justin Lin can do.
