Sonic the Hedgehog 3, based on the popular video game, held onto the top spot for the second weekend in a row, earning $38 million for a domestic total of $137.6 million.
The Disney film Mufasa: The Lion King, a prequel to The Lion King, held onto its second place finish from last week, taking in an additional $37.1 million for a two-week total of $113.5 million.
Debuting at No. 3 was Nosferatu, the tale of a haunted young woman (Lily-Rose Depp) and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her. It took in $21.2 million over the weekend for a total of $40.3 million since it opened on Christmas Day.
Wicked, the movie adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo dropped a spot to fourth, earning an extra $19.5 million for a six-week take of $424.2 million. Click here to read our review.
Rounding out the top five was Moana 2 featuring the voice of Auli'i Cravalho. It took in an additional $18.2 million for a five-week total of $394.6 million.
