Smile 2 takes over as top movie at weekend box office

Smile 2 tops weekend box officeThe reign of the horror movie sequels continues as Halloween approaches. Two very different new movies debuted in the top five -- but only one was crowned champion.

Smile 2 starring Naomi Scott as a global pop sensation debuted at the top of the weekend box office, taking in $23 million.

The Wild Robot held onto second place again this weekend, earning another $10.1 million for a four-week total of $101.7 million.

Terrifier 3, which features a frightening clown on Christmas Eve, dropped two spots to third, earning an additional $9.3 million for a two-week total of $36.2 million.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice starring Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Jenna Ortega held onto fourth place, taking in an extra $5 million for an outstanding seven-week total of $284 million. Click here to read our review.

Rounding out the top five this weekend was the new romantic drama We Live in Time starring Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield, which debuted with $4.2 million.
