Miami Art Week included the "first-ever exhibit of art by chimpanzees," provided by @rt by chimps.
Their work intrigued P!nk, who bought a painting for $5,000 prior to the event opening today (Wednesday, November 30, 2022). One of the event's organizers told The New York Post's Page Six that Pink "was heartened to learn that chimps find painting therapeutic and, like humans, the ape artists tend to be introspective."
The piece she purchased was by chimpanzees Patty and Kramer, and is a 31" x 41" acrylic on black canvas featuring dabs and lines in blue, white and pink, titled appropriately "Art by Patty & Kramer" (pictured above). Purchases of artwork by the chimpanzees go to benefit the Save the Chimps sanctuary in Fort Pierce, Florida.
The sanctuary provides lifelong refuge and care to over 200 chimpanzees rescued from research laboratories, the pet trade, and the entertainment industry.
The paintings "Art by September" and "Art by Dylan and Connor" have also already been sold, but there are a number of other paintings available. Click here to all the artwork.
P!nk also teamed up earlier this month to create art from the sound waves of her songs for the charitable organizations UNICEF and No Kid Hungry (see above photo, top left). ~Alexandra Heilbron
It's gorgeous! I think my favorite is the one done by Dylan. Or the one by Dylan and Melody. Love this idea!
I guess $5K to Pink is like $10 to the rest of us.
Say what you WILL, I would BUY some of these!!
This "artwork" is just meaningless chaos. It is definitely NOT 'abstract'. I am wistful for the days when journalists actually knew the proper definitions of the words they use.
