Although Everything Everywhere All at Once was looking to be an Oscar front-runner, last Sunday's BAFTA awards, streaming on BritBox in North America, have stirred things up.
The German movie All Quiet on the Western Front, which is nominated for nine Academy Awards including Best Motion Picture and Best International Feature Film, took home seven BAFTAs, including Best Film, Best Film Not in the English Language and Best Adapted Screenplay. It looks like it will take home Oscars, but probably not in the Best Film category, as it lost out in the one category it was nominated for at the Golden Globes and doesn't have any SAG (Screen Actors Guild) or PGA (Producers Guild of America) nominations.
Everything Everywhere All at Once, which has 11 Academy Award nominations, had 10 BAFTA nods but only won the award for Best Editing. Ke Huy Quan, who has won Best Supporting Actor at the Golden Globe and Critics Choice Awards, is still the front-runner to win the Oscar, but at the BAFTAs, he lost to Barry Keoghan, for The Banshees of Inisherin.
Colin Farrell, who was a favorite to win a BAFTA, having won the Dublin Film Critics Circle Award, a London Critics Circle Film Award and a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Comedy, lost to American actor Austin Butler for his performance in the title role in Elvis. Butler has been winning nearly everything he's been nominated for, including a Golden Globe in the Drama category, and with the BAFTA win, the only other actor who seems to be serious competition for the Oscar now is Brendan Fraser for The Whale.
The Banshees of Inisherin scored a win for Kerry Condon as Best Supporting Actress over Angela Bassett for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, previously the leader in that category. Cate Blanchett won BAFTA for Lead Actress for her role in TÁR, beating Michelle Yeoh of Everything Everywhere All at Once, and with both having won at the Golden Globes (Yeoh in the Comedy category and Blanchett in the Drama category), the Oscar winner could be either one of these two talented women.

Austin Butler was amazing as Elvis. Deserves the Oscar!
Everything All At Once didn't get past the first 20 minutes for me. Not an award winner for any reason. Elvis was a good story and the actor was believable as Elvis but not great. I would like to give awards to Tom Hanks for Otto. And Cate Blanchett goes without saying. Tar was the best movie.
No one can fault G. Butler's EL-VEZ. Lots liked Him more than the Real El-vez! I sure did. Never did it for me in Real Life, but grew on me after he left us, somewhat. NOW: EVERYTHING, EVERYWHERE: You either GET this Amazing flick's GENIUS, acting, premise, off-the-WALL-Ness- and (usually) LOVE it.......or you Won't. I for one...LIKE having my Head BLOWN APART by a movie. I say BRAVO! Problem is, it came out too early in the Year, and the Oscars have a short memory, oft times. But ya' Neva Know!! Tar was Better than I expected, as was 'MISSING', a real sleeper I Hope wins Something! Didn't see 'The Whale' though. Otto was a warm YAWN. OK, not great.
Yes. Elvis was a good movie ,and yes Austin Butler did a amazing job. But.it has been done before many times it is like saying who was the best performance of Ebenezer SCROOGE. Now! the movie Living was a great movie and Nightly did an incredible job it was the most honest and sincere performance from an actor that I have seen in a long time and I hope the academy thinks so too.
BILL NIGHYSHOULD WINFOR BEST ACTOR
