Barbie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling debuted in the top spot at the box office this weekend, pulling in an amazing $155 million, making it the biggest opening weekend for a female-directed film. Barbie is also expected to remain the largest opening weekend for a summer movie this year.
Oppenheimer, starring Cillian Murphy and directed by Christopher Nolan, debuted in second place, taking in $80.5 million.
Sound of Freedom starring Jim Caviezel dropped just one place to land in third with additional earnings of $20.1 million for a total of $124.7 million.
Last weekend's top movie, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One starring Tom Cruise, dropped three spots to fourth this weekend. It made an extra $19.5 million for a total of $118.8 million. Click here to read our review.
Rounding out the top five was Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny starring Harrison Ford. It earned an additional $6.7 million for a three-week total of $159 million. ~Alexandra Heilbron
