New Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping trailer drops!

Fans of The Hunger Games franchise were treated to a new trailer for the upcoming prequel today.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping returns to the world of Panem and follows a young Haymitch Abernathy (Joseph Zada) 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games. The story begins on the morning of the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell.

The trailer opens in the arena, where twice as many tributes stand ready as the Games are about to begin. President Snow (Ralph Fiennes) delivers an ominous speech to Haymitch, hinting at his connection to his love interest, Lenore Dove.

The footage also features Caesar Flickerman (Kieran Culkin) in his role as the eccentric TV host, along with Effie Trinket (Elle Fanning) as the flamboyant Capitol advisor. We also see sparks of rebellion emerging, with Plutarch Heavensbee (Jesse Plemons).

The trailer ends on a cliffhanger, with President Snow beginning the iconic line, "Let the odds be…"

Although it was announced last year that Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson would reprise their iconic roles, neither appears in the trailer.
