Moana 2 featuring the voice of Auli’i Cravalho took over the box office crown from Wicked, earning $139.8 million over the U.S. Thanksgiving long weekend for an astounding total of $225.4 million since it opened on Wednesday, making it not only the best-ever opening for a Walt Disney Animation film (topping Frozen II's $130.3 million opening), but also the best 5-day and Thanksgiving opening ever.
Wicked, the movie adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, dropped a spot to second with an additional $81.2 million for a two-week total of $263.2 million, making it the highest-grossing big screen adaptation of a Broadway musical at the domestic box office. Gladiator II starring Paul Mescal dropped to third in its second weekend in theaters, earning an extra $31 million for a total of $111.5 million.
Red One, a Santa Claus spy thriller starring Dwayne Johnson, Chris Evans and J.K. Simmons, slid to fourth, taking in an additional $12.7 million for a three-week total of $75.9 million.
Rounding out the top five was the heartwarming family movie The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, earning an extra $3.2 million for a four-week total of $31.9 million.
