Halloween Ends debuted in its opening weekend at the top of the box office -- the only new movie to break into the top five. With Jamie Lee Curtis returning as Laurie Strode in the trilogy finale, the film took in $41.3 million, slightly lower than the opening weekend take of its predecessor, Halloween Kills ($49.4 million).
After two weekends as the box office champ, the horror movie Smile dropped a spot to second place, taking in an additional $12.4 million for a three-week total of $71.2 million.
Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile also dropped a spot to land in third place. The movie, about a little boy who finds a singing crocodile living in his home, earned $7.4 million for a two-week total of $22.8 million.
The Woman King starring Viola Davis held onto fourth, taking in an additional $3.7 million for a five-week total of $59.7 million.
Rounding out the top five was the crime drama Amsterdam starring Christian Bale, John David Washington and Margot Robbie, which earned another $2.9 million for a two-week total of almost $12 million. ~Alexandra Heilbron
