Flight Risk opened number one at the box office this weekend, which was unsurprisingly quiet even though January is usually a slow month for movies. The Mark Wahlberg-led thriller opened to $12 million in its debut. With a budget of around $25 million, the film may not be a box office hit but could still break even.
Last weekend's champion, Mufasa: The Lion King came in second as it continues to showcase impressive staying power dropping 28 per cent to bring in another $8.7 million in its sixth week of release. The film has grossed $221.7 million domestically.
In third place was the R-rated comedy One of Them Days. With a 94 per cent critic score and 91 per cent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, the film held up well in its second weekend, pulling in another $8 million, which was a 32 per cent drop. The film has now made $25.9 million domestically and with a budget of approximately $14 million, the film is looking like a win for Sony.
Taking the fourth place spot yet again was Sonic the Hedgehog 3 as it grossed $5.5 million in its sixth week of release as it dropped 36 per cent. The film's domestic total is now up to $226.9 million. With the film releasing on VOD this week we will see how much longer the hedgehog can stay in the top five.
Holding onto fifth spot was Moana 2. The animated film brought in $4.3 million during its ninth week of release, which was a 28 per cent drop. The film has now grossed $450.4 million domestically and passed the $1 billion mark worldwide. Not bad for a film that was going to be a streaming series on Disney+.
