Dog Man debuted as king at the box office this weekend. The animated film from DreamWorks brought in $36 million, the highest opening weekend of 2025 and the second highest opening for a January animated film behind Kung Fu Panda 3,which opened to $41.8 million. With a reported budget of $40 million, it's off to a good start in its theatrical run.
Another new release of the weekend came in second as the sci-fi thriller Companion grossed $9.5 million in its debut. The film from Warner Bros., which stars Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid, had a reported budget of $10 million, which could indicate a profitable run at the box office.
In third place is Mufasa: The Lion King, ending its streak of six straight weeks in the top two. The film, now in its seventh week, added another $6.1 million to its haul, a 29 per cent drop. The film, which grossed $35.4 million in its opening weekend, now has a domestic total of $229.5 million.
One of Them Days held strong again in its third weekend as it brought in another $6 million, a 25 per cent drop. The film is proving to be a win for Sony as it has now grossed $34.4 million domestically. The film had a budget of $14 million.
Rounding out the top five was last weekend's winner Flight Risk which fell in its second weekend as it dropped 52 per cent to gross $5.6 million. The film's domestic total now stands at $20.9 million.
