The new animated film DC League of Super-Pets debuted at the top of the box office this weekend. The family friendly film, featuring the voice talents of Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Kate McKinnon, and John Krasinski, brought in $23 million in its first weekend in theaters.
Dropping to second place was Jordan Peele's newest horror film Nope. Starring Keke Palmer and Daniel Kaluuya as a brother-sister duo, the film took in an additional $18.6 million for a two-week total of $80.6 million.
Thor: Love and Thunder fell to third place over the weekend. The newest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe earned $13.1 million for a four-week total of $301.5 million.
Minions: Rise of Gru fell to fourth place this weekend. The film added $10.9 million for a five-week total of $320.4 million.
Top Gun: Maverick starring Tom Cruise held a solid fifth place at the weekend box office. The film grossed an additional $8.2 million for a 10-week total take of $650.1 million. ~Megan Parsons
