It was a slow weekend at the domestic box office as all films grossed approximately $54.7 million, the lowest mark of 2025. The Jack Quaid action film Novocaine led the way and took the box office crown. The film brought in $8.7 million on a reported budget of $18 million. The reviews for the film are strong, so we will see if it can hold well and leg out a profit.
Falling to second place, and beating out the third place film by a hair, was last week's winner, Mickey 17. The latest film from Bong Joon-ho grossed $7.5 million, a 60 per cent drop. The film has now grossed $33.2 million domestically — with a $118 million production budget, the film has a long way to go if it wants to turn a profit.
Coming in third place was the Steven Soderbergh spy-thriller Black Bag starring Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender. The film debuted to $7.5 million on a reported production budget of $50 million. It was approximately $10 thousand behind Mickey 17. The film has received high critic scores but only a "B" on Cinemascore which usually does not bode well for a film's legs.
Falling to fourth place in its fifth week of release was Captain America: Brave New World. The film fell 35 per cent and added another $5.47 million to its domestic haul, which currently sits at $185.3 million. It has now passed Ant-Man, Thor, and Black Widow and sits at number 28 on the MCU's domestic box office chart.
Rounding out the top five was The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie. The iconic duo of Porky Pig and Daffy Duck opened to $3.17 million. With a reported budget of $15 million, it was a bit of a surprise that the film got a theatrical release, considering the drama surrounding the scrapping of Coyote vs. Acme by Warner Bros. But it is nice to see the Looney Tunes back on the big screen.
