Shocking news from Hollywood late Tuesday night: actor and comedian Andy Dick, 59, was reportedly found unresponsive on a downtown Los Angeles sidewalk, according to bystanders who alerted emergency services. The incident has once again sparked concern among fans and friends who’ve watched the star’s long, tumultuous journey unfold in public.
According to TMZ, which obtained photos from the scene, bystanders were shouting for him to "Wake up" and one called for someone to get Narcan, a medication that can save people who have overdosed. Andy was administered the shot and regained consciousness. By the time paramedics arrived, he refused transportation to the hospital. On Tuesday night, Andy told TMZ that he’s "alive" and relieved to be okay, although he didn't give any specifics or say which drugs he'd taken.
Andy first broke into comedy in the 1980s, sharpening his offbeat humor with Chicago’s legendary improv troupe The Second City. His big break came in the mid-'90s on the NBC sitcom NewsRadio, where his eccentric style and wild comedic timing made him one of TV’s most unpredictable scene-stealers. From there, he appeared on series such as The Ben Stiller Show and Less Than Perfect, as well as his own sketch comedy series The Andy Dick Show.
But as much as Andy became known for his comedic brilliance, his off-screen troubles — ranging from addiction issues with time spent in rehab and in jail, to legal and personal controversies — often threaten to overshadow his talent. This latest scare leaves longtime fans hoping that this time, Andy can get it together. ~Alexandra Heilbron
how about movies with imagination rather than sequels.
Shocking news? It's Andy Dick. This isn't shocking or surprising at all.
It's hard to feel sorry for people who do this to themselves.
A typical night out for Randy Andy Richard
Hope he makes it to the end of the year.
What a shame. He needs to clean up his act or the next time there won't be a Narcan shot available.
People are so quick to form an opinion on someone elese they have never met or know nothing about and then think those opinions are relevant. Walk a mile in Andy's shoes and see how quick you are to judge. I hope he can pull himself out of whatever DARK place he's residing..
Oh come on, James! People know nothing about Andy Dick??? Ridiculous. His long history of abuse and dissolution is well known and in the public record. He is NEVER going to help himself. If he was ever going to pull himself out of his self-imposed hell he would have done it decades ago.
I believe that Andy Dick also had a guest role in an episode of Star Trek: Voyager playing a holographic doctor.
