A24, the studio behind films such as the Best Picture Oscar winners Everything Everywhere All At Once and Moonlight has hired 19-year-old YouTube filmmaker Kane Parsons to direct a feature-length adaptation of his supernatural horror series The Backrooms, making him the youngest director in A24 history.
The film, which stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Cristin Milioti and Renate Reinsve, will begin filming this summer.
Originally known as Backrooms, the YouTube series is an 18-episode anthology that explores a mysterious alternate dimension. Debuting in 2022, it was created, written, and directed by Parsons, who is known as Kane Pixels on YouTube.
A24's upcoming 2025 slate includes Materialists starring Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans, which debuts this Friday, June 13; Eddington starring Joaquin Phoenix , Pedro Pascal, Emma Stone and Austin Butler, which opens in theaters July 18; and The Smashing Machine, starring Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson, set for release on October 3, 2025. ~Alexandra Heilbron
