The flashbacks to Nazi occupation of Austria are perfect for the audience to understand what happen in that period of history. As well for Maria the flashbacks are cathartic both painful and healing as she confronts her past. This was a powerful movie with Helen Mirren giving a brilliant performance. Today I have told all my friends to see this film as one I highly recommend.
I thought the movie was pretty good, my date ended up crying pretty hard at the end and I myself struggled to fight back the tears. Helen Mirren's portrayal of Maria Altmann was absolutely fantastic. She was not only funny as character who was indecisive and outspoken, but very lovable and charming, especially in her one on one interactions with Ryan Reynolds character. In certain instances you see her character act as a mother figure to Ryan Reynolds by cleaning a smudge on his jacket or preparing him a meal. These scenes makes you feel a strong bond between that the two characters, that is revealed through the course of the film, is extended by their close family histories. Helen Mir
Helen Mirren made this movie. It was moving, realistic, and a true story. I was kept in my seat from start to ending. thank you.
I really enjoyed Woman In Gold. It was moving and Helen Mirren made the film fabulous.
The film is based on a true story, a woman takes on the whole country of Austria. Jewish refugee Maria Altmann (Helen Mirren) fled from Austria during the German invasion of World War II leaving her family members and possessions behind. Years later when her sister dies, she finds letters that prove her family is the owner of several Gustag Klimt paintings, including a portrait titled Woman In Gold which was reportedly worth 135 million. She hires an inexperienced attorney named Randol Schoenberg (Ryan Reynolds) to advise her chances of getting the painting back. He goes to Austria with her and when the government turns them down, they reluctantly return to the
Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to see this movie. I took my 12 year old son with me and he enjoyed it as well. He is interested in WW2 and Hitler and this was an appropriate movie as well for my son. I love movies that are based on true events. The two main characters were well cast. The movie went back and forth between the present and flashbacks back to how it all happened. This was well done. It makes one think about all the different ways that war has affected people. I liked how the movie ended.
Truly beautiful movie! We enjoyed from beginning to end! The good part about the movie is that justice prevailed!
I thoroughly enjoyed Woman In Gold. The sense of loss that Helen M portrays and then the very real feeling that although a wrong had been righted the pain of that wrong doesn't go away. The flashback sequences were beautifully done. Over all a terrific movie
Woman in Gold was a very beautiful movie. I am a fan of Helen Mirren and she did a fabulous job.
Very well acted by all those involved. Can't wait to see it again!
Love movies that are based on true stories, Helen Mirren and Ryan Reynolds were well cast, will recommend to friends.
This movie was great! Full of lots of history and culture! The story itself was moving with great tidbits of humour added in. I would recommend this movie.
Well acted film, with incredible actors. Storyline was powerful. Enjoyed the movie from start to finish. I would recommend this movie to anyone. Thank you.
I liked the story and would rate the movie 3 out of 5.
Helen Mirren gives an Oscar worthy performance in this movie. Based on actual events, the story encompasses art, history and legal drama.
Thank you so much for allowing me to see this movie. It was a tastefully done true story which did not use extreme photography. The movie skillfully built a feeling of tension and of revulsion toward the Austrian and Natzi manipulation of the woman and others. The inevitable happened. One was left with an understanding of how important this picture is.
Very touching. A nice mix of the past and the present combined in a sad but meaningful story.
I thought the film was terrific. I really enjoyed the original storyline and the way it was told. The acting was superb and I was gripped from beginning to end. This is a definite must see movie and I highly recommend it. Well done!
Woman in Gold was the best movie I've seen so far this year. Helen Mirren deserves an Oscar nomination for her role. Ryan Reynolds and Tatiana Maslany were also very good. Actually, the whole cast was excellent. It was a very well-done movie and told an important story worth telling. I have recommended it to my friends and family. It's a must-see movie.
I loved it
Woman in Gold is a beautiful film about family, tragedy, love, rebirth and justice. The film was riveting and inspiring, and included charming performances by Dame Helen Mirren and Ryan Reynolds. The true life story of Maria Altmann's life should not be missed. I hope this film inspires audiences worldwide to learn more about Nazi campaigns so that history never repeats itself.
The movie was well-scripted and well-acted. I particularly enjoyed Helen Mirren's character. Her chemistry with the lawyer played by Ryan Reynolds was evident.
Excellent movie, it held my attention from beginning to end. Wonderful performances by Helen Mirren, Ryan Reynolds and Tatiana Maslany. I could feel the emotion, I forgot they were acting. Definitely a must see. Awards are inevitable.
This film was a mixed bag. As an adaptation of true events, it was relatively traditional and so not all that engaging story wise. However, the acting and imagery saved this film for me. Helen Mirren and Ryan Reynolds gave stellar performances, as expected, but it was Tatiana Maslaney that really stole the show. Her portrayal of a young Maria Altmann was both beautiful and heart wrenching. The flashback imagery in the film was gorgeous. Overall, a film with perhaps just a bit too much tradition but just enough shining parts to be set apart.
Wonderful movie with a great cast.
Remarkable story of seeking justice. Helen Mirren puts out an incredible performance. Ruan Reynolds just cannot keep up or hold a candle to her. Go see this you won't be disappointed.
Strong performance by Mirren. She is the 'queen' of this film.
Loved this movie start to finish. Great acting and it flowed well. I love movies based on true stories. Great movie worthwhile seeing. Helen Mirren is fantastic. She captures the screen.
Good movie. It's worth the watch
I thought the movie was excellent. Good depiction of this true story. Helen Mirren stole the show. Worth seeing
My husband and I really enjoyed the movie, Woman in Gold. Helen Mirren gave a stunning performance. Ryan Reynolds and Tatiana Maslany gave great supportive roles. The background of Vienna, Austria was beautiful. The flashbacks were done expertly. a real tearjerker. A must see for lovers of art, history and great acting!
We always enjoy the Tribute screenings. The Sponsors are welcoming and the cinema staff very courteous. Woman in Gold offered a sensitive view of the Holocaust. excellent film.
I would say entertaining and a bit humorous even though the subject was not very? Smile
This film was amazing! Helen Mirren and Ryan Reynolds give incredible and heart-wrenching performances. The film transitions seemlessly between post-Nazi Vienna and Vienna in the late 90s. It's historically captivating and by the end there won't be a dry eye in the theatre. It's truly a film of perseverance and triumph!
I am very tempted to give this movie 5 out of 5, but I am a tough audience who believes it is hard to accomplish perfection. Dealing with the emotional subject of retrieving family possessions and reliving unimaginable historical events, the cast and crew create an excellent atmosphere, resulting in both laughter and tears. This movie will definitely send you on an emotional roller coaster. I do not want to provide any spoilers as this is a must see film, so all I will say is that given a glimpse into the life of someone who is fighting for the right to preserve her family history while battling the struggle to face her past was very eye opening for me. You can definitely witness various
The always amazing and dignified Helen Mirren will have you in turns laughing and crying. Would not perhaps have cast Ryan Reynolds as the lawyer that takes on her case, but they did have a good onscreen chemistry. I believe there was not a dry eye in the house at the film's resolution. Would highly recommend this film.
Great film! You just want Maria to win and get back what is rightfully hers! Helen Mirren and Ryan Reynolds pull it off beautifully.
Thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I cried. have never been to Vienna. It is very beautiful and would hope that one day I could go and visit the Holocaust Memorial. I have been to the one in Israel. I also did not know that the painting is now on display in New York. I highly recommend it to everyone, whether Jewish or not.
This movie kept us interested from beginning to end. I found myself being overwehelmed and a bit teary-eyed when I left the theatre. Both Helen Mirren and Ryan Reynolds were great! I would totally recommend it to anyone.
great acting by both Ryan Reynolds and Helen Mirren; I really enjoyed this movie!
I love Helen Miren, she's such a great actress! I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, it kept us captivated the entire time. The movie told the story with historical accuracy and social realities, well done!
Loved it, what a great movie!!
This movie poignant at times, yet inspirational and uplifting, was a remarkably good story. The final outcome bestowed a modicum of justice on many who had been deprived of so much by the Nazi thugs. Helen Mirren was, as ever, brilliant in her portrayal of Maria Altmann and Ryan Reynolds' performance, playing her justice-seeking, tenacious young lawyer, was note-worthy. The cinematography was especially wonderful!
Both my friend and I thought the movie was superb and worthy of five stars. As a European with Jewish family members I was touched by the horrors of what they went through. Being an art aficionado, I enjoyed the theme of the painting and the story behind it and was disturbed by the underhanded way the committee operated. The sub story of how Maria goes through the different emotions and the changing relationship between her and her lawyer was realistic and interesting. Helen Mirren's acting was wonderful as usual and I was pleasantly surprised by Ryan Reynolds. It is a movie that left me thinking and that I would highly recommend.
Really enjoyed this film-- the acting was excellent and the story was compelling. The weaving of the past and present stories was very well done.
This movie was excellent from beginning to end. It is also interesting to note the Woman in Gold painting can be seen in New York.
Great show- great story, no sex or violence, just emotion, and expression and REAL feeling expressed throughout.. I LOVE Helen Mirren-- I had no doubt at all that she was actually Maria in real life-- not acting, and Ryan was just simply sweet and believable. And the fact that it was based on a true story, makes it one of my favourites this year so far!!!
This was an excellent movie. I was impressed with the acting and thought Helen Mirren did a great job of portraying Maria Altmann.
The subject matter was heart wrenching but Maria's quips kept the show from being gloomy.
It was a wonderful movie and everyone clapped at the end..I would give it a 4. Good for families too and the acting was very good. Thanks for the passes.
