The TV show follows Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), a telepathic waitress in a world of vampires and various creatures. Season five picks up right after the events of season four. It is loosely based on the fifth book in The Southern Vampire Mysteries series, Dead as a Doornail, but also incorporates storylines from some of the subsequent books.
