Douglas Quaid (Arnold Schwarzenegger) has a recurring dream about going to Mars. Intrigued, he buys an implanted memory in order to find out more about his dream, but something goes wrong. A different personality surfaces in Quaid and he suddenly has memories of being a secret agent on Mars, fighting against an evil dictator.
