Exploring the cultural and commercial phenomenon of idols — young, cute Japanese girls. They sing and/or lip-sync and dance to pop songs while wearing colorful costumes, to the delight of their armies of older male fans. The men pay for a handshake with the idols, which lasts only three seconds before they’re pulled away by security. The fans, who spend a large amount of money on their idol obsessions, engage in escapism with these young girls rather than having relationships with women their own age.
