Chief Inspector Armand Gamache (Alfred Molina), who is investigating the disappearance of an indigenous woman, is called to the Quebec village of Three Pines when a murder is committed.
Along with his colleagues Jean-Guy Beauvoir (Rossif Sutherland) and Isabelle Lacoste (Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers), and local police officer Yvette Nichol (Sarah Booth), he discovers that the murdered woman lived in a restored boarding school for Indigenous children, where many atrocities occurred.
