While studying to be a medical doctor, Julie (Renate Reinsve) realizes she's more interested in the mind, rather than the body. She switches her course of study to psychology, but soon comes to the realization she's more interested in the visual, and begins taking a photography course. While taking portraits, she falls in love with an older man, Aksel (Anders Danielsen Lie) – a successful graphic novelist. As she approaches thirty, she's working in a bookstore and realizes her talents have gone to waste, while Aksel is pushing for her to have a baby with him.
One night, she gate-crashes a house party and meets the young and charming Eivind (Herbert Nordrum). Before long, she has broken up with Aksel and thrown herself into yet another new relationship, hoping for a new perspective on her life. But she will come to realize that some life choices are already behind her.
