Anna (Kristen Bell) is a divorced woman whose eight-year-old daughter was murdered three years earlier. Still stricked with grief, she drinks wine from dawn to dark, on top of taking prescription pills, which causes her to experience hallucinations. When new people move in across the street, she's intrigued by her handsome new neighbor Neil (Tom Riley), who has a young daughter of his own.
To Anna's disappointment, she soon discovers that he has a girlfriend. She also finds out that her neighbors are gossiping about her drinking and strange behavior. When she settles down one night at her window with her usual full glass of wine, she sees the girlfriend in distress in Neil's house, clutching a wound in her neck. Anna believes the woman is being murdered and calls the police. However, when no body is found and Neil tells them his girlfriend is out of town, no one believes Anna's story. Anna decides to begin her own investigation, which leads her to question if she really did witness a murder.
