A seven-year-old boy (Yoo), born and raised in the big city, is brought by his unemployed single mother to live temporarily with his mute grandmother (Kim) in her humble home. The wise old grandmother has spent her whole life in a remote rural village, patient from a life of sleeping on a wooden headrest and squatting. Forced to stay with his grandmother, the lonely, selfish boy feels abandoned and is hit with culture shock -- where's the KFC? He reacts with rage and doesn't seem to care or realize that his grandmother, although mute, can hear him when he calls her names. But he cannot outlast the determination of his aged grandmother to win him over with an unconditional love and devotion.
