In the early 1990s, infamous drug baron Pablo Escobar decided to launder his drug money by acquiring soccer teams. This new funding catapulted the Colombian team out of decades of obscurity by qualifying for the 1994 World Cup, held in the United States. A few months before the prestigious tournament, Escobar, who had instituted a reign of terror to force the government to postpone his surrender as demanded by Washington, was shot by police. Threatened with death by the enemies of the boss, the players and coach of the Colombian team arrived at the World Cup in a state of great nervousness. When Andres Escobar, the popular team captain was murdered, it dashed the hopes of a nation. This film investigates the secret marriage of crime and sport and uncovers the surprising connections between the murders of Andres and Pablo.
