Paris, Summer 1942. Although the German occupation forces him to wear a yellow star on his chest, Joseph Weismann, 12, leads a relatively carefree existence on the Butte Montmartre. July 16, everything changes. Hitler stages a massive round up of Jews. Crammed into the Velodrome d'Hiver, the Jews, including Joseph, his family and neighbors, try to survive in poverty. Annette Monod, a nurse, takes it upon herself to help children escape when it becomes obvious they're to be sent to death camps. Watching out for Noah, the younger brother of his best friend, Joseph shows exceptional courage and resourcefulness as he loses his family.
