Uruguay, 1988. In the poor village of Mello, near the Brazilian border, the inhabitants prepare for the visit of Pope John Paul II. Like most, Beto, a bicycle smuggler, seeks a way to benefit from the thousands of pilgrims arriving for the occasion. His idea: to set up a public toilet and crown it as the only Pope’s Toilet in all of Uruguay.
His wife and daughter think he's crazy, but Beto goes ahead with his plans. First he has to find an appropriate toilet and make several risky trips across the border and back. A few days of the arrival of the Pope, Beto's bicycle is stolen, but Beto persists with determination.
