I thought the depiction of the scourging was everything I believed it to be as a young person growing up with the teachings. It was gruesome but not unbelievable. Those who have spoken out against it are trying to hide the truth. And oh by the way, for those who don`t know, it was Roman soldiers that tortured Jesus not the Jews.
For someone who knows their Bible very well, I can say that this movie does not represent Jesus in a truthful way. I understand Mel`s intentions but the vital message of Christ was simply distorted and the wrong things were glorified. Also, way too many ridiculous " slow-motions ".
I think that it was a very reviting film. We must realize that jesus payed for our sin`s past, present, and future. All we have to do is ask for forgivness. God`s tear at the end of the movie really shows how I felt.
An in depth look at the last hours of Christ`s life. Not afraid to show the violence as it really was. When they say he was flogged, they show what the really mean, not the typical movie version of a few stripes on someone`s back. Not for children, as rendition too shocking and real.
good
Amazing portrayal of the last hours on Earth of our Lord and Saviour. It makes me wonder why anyone would die such a horrible death for such a sinner like myself.
if you think this movie is bad then you have no idea what you are talking about. i`ve been waiting for a director like mel gibson to finally release a film like this because everyone deserves to know the truth. jesus is my life and we all forget what he`s done for us. it wasn`t too gory or way over the top or didn`t have a plot or anything. it was perfect. the message was clear. think about what he did for you. and the least you can do is love him for that. thank you mel. thank you jesus for dying on the cross for my sins.
I saw this movie in theaters and it made me rethnk all of my values. I should be asking myself WWJD? this movie has changed my life bigtime!
I think I missed the real message in all the gore.
Way over the top! No human body could ever withstand that much punishment and still stay concious (not to mention carry a 100+ lb cross!). The unrealistic nature of the punishment and goriness really took away from the real focus of the story. It tried to focus too much on making people feel contempt for those that condemed Jesus rather than the the actual point of His death. YES POEPLE, HIS DEATH DID HAVE MEANING!! This film helped me to understand better the plan of God. Brilliant!
omg...2 hours of reading and watching a broken an bloddy man stumble around an he doesn`t even get revenge!!!!!
It was amazing, finally a director that has a movie that shows why the lord gave his child for us,,a showing that is yes gruesome, violent,,but for the first film that shows the story you feel the pain and sacrifice that it means, not sugarcoated, but real.
I loved it, it was the best movie I have ever seen
It was an excellent movie. The last 12 hours of Christ`s life were extremely difficult, not only for Him but for His followers. It was full of emotion and was displayed accurately. Mel Gibson knew what he was doing when he brought this story to life. He did a wonderful job with is direction. The actors were superb and Jim Caviezel`s "Jesus" was excellent. I cried buckets and truly understand what Christ did for me. Reading the bible is one thing, but seeing this movie shows us how much suffering Christ went through during his last night on this earth. I am definitely going to purchase this film when it comes out on video/DVD.
Damn! I never cried so much before! It vwas the best and it really put some faith back in me and appreciate how much Jesus did for us! Truly moving!
Deeply moving, depiction of the last hours of Christ.
A superb job done by director/actor Mel Gibson. A truly commendable job indeed.
i think it was great but sad
I can`t wait for the movie to come out on video. The acting was superb and the sound effects great and I went to see it twice and got two different feelings. The first time some scenes had to be explained to me(I didn`t realize that Jesus was whipped so brutally) so the bible says he was whipped beyond recognition). The second time I payed more attention to what Jesus said and it was more peaceful. Mel Gibson payed attention to detail and I think he got it 99% right
It was truly a powerful movie I have ever seen.
Most powerful movie you will ever see! If it doesn`t move you, you must be dead!
a powerful epic....superb acting and a fantastic recreation of Christs last 12 hours.i highly reccomend this masterpiece to anyone who hasnt seen it
The film was very well done!
I myself am not a religous person, but this movie made me think. But aside from all of the questions did it happen or didn`t it, one thing is for sure, crucifixion happened. Thousands of men were tortured and nailed to a cross, while they`re mothers, wives, and children watched, and if you can`t or wont believe and be moved by Jesus then you should be moved for all of the others, crucifixtion did not begin or end with Jesus and that to me is horrific.
I can`t imagine why anyone would chose to NOT see this film. True, it is painful for many to view. But the power of this experience has the potential to deeply affect your life in the most meaningful way when you enter the theatre with even the slightest hope of that happening for you.
Visually amazing but soulless.
"It is the way it was". This movie is the best movie that i have ever seen. I basically cried from beginning to end, but when all said and done, this movie is just powerful. It`s a masterpiece. It should get Best Picture this year, but regretfully it won`t-we all know what gets through and what does not in Hollywood. But it hurts me so much whenever anyone throws dirt at it. Thanks Mel. Disturbingly graphic, but probably looked very similar to the actual event. I`m not sure calling it "good" would be appropriate. It was very close to the true story, so you can`t really say it`s bad, but watching a man you love die is not exactly a "hopping good time" either. Some things in it had a certain - je ne se quoi, but movie making effects can only go so far without actually killing a person. Artistic liberty, of course was used, but that is expected (eg. Jesus inventing modern "high" tables). And by the way, it wasn`t the Jews that crucified him, it was people that were Jewish, and not all of them were Jewish anyway. All and all, it
It was just okay for me. Too graphic, violent. I think it left a lot of the story out.
I loved this movie, anyone who thinks it was unrealistic should really think about what they are saying!plus this movie was sooo sad i think if you think this movie was horrable i think you should ask for forgivness because God loves us and you are included so you should love God aswell. anyway this movie almost made me cry and i have to admite i don`t cry much at all practicly i havent cryed for about a year(this is how sad this movie is)it was beutiful!!!:)
For God so Loved the world he gave his only begotten son,for whosoever believeth in him, shall not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16
This just wasn`t a movie for me. I`m not religious at all, so I felt I was being preached to the whole time from a specific viewpoint. This movie shoudln`t have been made because it is too controversial, no one alive today knows the true story, all we go on is what other people have said. Powerful film making, yes, but it really just plays the blame game and tries to hold christians above anyone else in this world.
It is by far the best movie I have ever seen in my life.
the best movie I`ve ever seeen. even i am a christan i lovvvvvvvvveee it!!!!!!!
It is a very good your good movie that can and will change your life and it shows you how much Jesus loves you and He died that death for you!God bless Mel Gibson!
As a christian, I thought it was disturbing but true to the gospel. Jesus conquered the divide between man and God, sin and death, and love eternal.
The passion was incredably emotional. I think the point of the gosple has come accross very well. Although it is not the whole story why Jesus died for us i think the point came across for sending his son to die for us.
I think that this just proves that hollywood is taking over peoples lives because only after seeing this movie do most christians understand what jesus did for them and that is a shame. You should have took it upon your self to understand your religion. I also would like to say that parts in this movie are incorrect.
the movie was a horrific experience, to think that humans could be so incredibly cruel, the flogging was gut wrenching, but the passage to the top of the mountain was inspirational. I am still not a religious peron per se, but this movie has made me realize that a belief in a greater power is something that we all should strive towards. Love, inner strength and faith are the traits that this world lacks.
it was awsome and mel gibson did awsome directig job.
Look at the world now. can the world go back to where jesus lived long ago, if it did, it could go back to stone age. Look at reality and truth
Hi i think everyone should see this movie, I hope your life is changed after you see this, This world is sick, just look what`s going on in the news, ppl die and are killed everday, millions of ppl watch porn on the internet and think it`s ok, and in school it`s considerd "cool", but what is cool? would cool die for you!? NO, and i think the only cool thing that should be considerd cool is reading the bible! JESUS DIED FOR YOU! he didn`t die for you so that you would lie, steal, kill, commit adultery, he died so you would LOVE, and so that you had a chance for salvation, so stop watching t.v, but instead read the bible!!Look im 15 years old a
45 minutes of flogging is a bit excessive.
WOW! A little gory, but extremely emotional. Bring kleenex!
It is a masterpiece. Really masterpiece. In my opinion, tt is one of the best movies made since the beginning of the movie-making history. It is not just an easy ordinary movie that we can watch and forget after some time, no, it`s message is very deep and touching. It leaves its trace in people`s hearts. It makes you feel the spiritual, emotional depth of the movie. Everything is transmitting the message of love and compassion - the art of actors` playing, the orchestra and the choir, stage effects, etc. Plus, Mel Gibson`s attempt to depict historical accuracy of the Gospel is really appreciated. And the Aramaic language is the powerful bon
Thought the book was better.
I am a devout Catholic. I beleive in everything Christian. However learning about "The Crucifixion" in school, I was too young to grasp the true meaning of of Christ`s sacrfice and suffering. At an Alpha meeting last year, the crucifiction was explained verbally. It surely opened my eyes of the true meaning and significance of that awful event. The movie took me further into the moment. It opened my heart and soul to the tragic suffering Our Lord made for us. To me, it is not a movie but a true to life documentary. Seeing His passion as it really happened. Thank you Mel and God bless you Frank Hayes
The Stations of the Cross were brought to life on screen. Before the movie, one could only imagine or meditate on how they unfolded. After seeing the movie, one phrase comes to mind "It is as it was". Truly a masterpiece, thank you Mel. Maria
a graet movie to make non-christians start thinking about god and a graet movie to make christians remember!
