When best-selling author Jake Turner (Justin Hartley) returns to his childhood home in Connecticut at Christmas to settle his estranged mother's estate and clean out her house, he discovers a diary in a box marked personal. He puts it aside without reading it, not realizing that it holds secrets to his own past and that of Rachel (Barrett Doss) — an intriguing young woman who shows up at his door — looking for her birth mother.
Together, they set out on a journey to visit Jake's father in the countryside, who may be able to answer some of their questions. When they confront their pasts, they discover a future that's totally unexpected.
