Following an accident, Danielle "Dani" Moonstar (Blu Hunt) awakes at a medical facility to discover she's handcuffed to a gurney. Dr. Cecilia Reyes (Alice Braga) explains that she survived her ordeal thanks to her abilities as a mutant.
She is being treated along with Scottish teen Rahne Sinclair (Maisie Williams), Kentucky's Sam Guthrie (Charlie Heaton), Brazilian pretty boy Roberto De Costa (Henry Zaga), and Russian brat Illyana Rasputin (Anya Taylor-Joy), who each describe their first experiences with their powers.
As Dani’s powers are still unknown, Dr. Reyes often keeps her under observation and runs tests on her. The teen mutants try to get along, but there are disruptions and fights among them.
It soon becomes apparent that this facility is a prison for the troubled youths and that Dr. Reyes has ulterior and sinister motives for their treatments. Each of the mutants have their own demons from their past and soon their nightmares start turning into reality. These new mutants must band together and face their past sins in order to escape this house of horrors.
