An Italian opera in three acts with music by George Frideric Handel.
Giulio Cesare and his troops arrive on the banks of the River Nile after defeating Pompey's forces. Pompey's wife Cornelia begs for Cesare to spare her husband's life, but the leader of the Egyptian army enters, presenting Cesare with Pompey's head.
Cesare's assistant, Curio, who's smitten with Cornelia, offers to avenge her, but she refuses.
In Egypt, following a quarrel with her brother over who will take the throne, Cleopatra overhears a plan to have Cesare murdered.
