Justin (Jordan Gavaris) returns from living in Australia to reconnect with his biological daughter Billie (Madison Shamoun), whom he gave up for adoption when he was a teenager. Because her parents are heading out on a vacation for the entire summer, Justin plans to take Billie to the lake, where his family had a cottage. He has many fond memories of his childhood spent there and looks forward to revisiting.
When they get to the lake, he's incensed to discover his father left the family cottage to his manipulative stepsister, Maisy (Julia Stiles). With Billie's help, he decides to get the cottage back, no matter what it takes.
In Season 2, Justin and Riley (Travis Nelson) decide to make their relationship official. But their plans, along with the beloved boathouse, go up in flames. Although Justin doesn't believe his actions caused the fire, the rest of the residents do, so he sets out to prove his innocence and find out who's the culprit. Meanwhile, Maisy is less than thrilled when her mother Mimsy (Lauren Holly), who claims she’s dying, returns to the lake to spend her final summer with her family. Billie returns for what is meant to only be one week before she starts a summer job, but after she meet a gorgeous tree planter, Forrest (Jhaleil Swaby), and a fierce climate activist, Ivy (Max Amani), she decides to stay at the lake and work with them.
