One of the best movies of the year....simply amazing

User review rating: 5 January 08, 2011

It was a great movie.

User review rating: 5 January 08, 2011

The only bad thing about this movie is the fact that it eventually had to end. It's one movie that was actually worth the price I paid for it and gladly, too! It's so much more than a movie about the "stuffy" Royals as it is a human interest story with history combined. Colin Firth deserves the Oscar and more.

Fantastic, fabulous story and acting!

User review rating: 5 January 07, 2011

An entertaining and excellent lesson of the world and history of the Monarchy. Firth and Rush will contend at the Oscar's for sure. And a daring approach in directing from Tom Hooper with his unusual camera angles and close-ups making what could have been a stagnant scene interesting. Highly recommend.

Excellent movie and all the cast was amazing in their roles. Oscar worthy for everyone.

User review rating: 5 January 07, 2011

Superbly acted and crafted. The Oscar bee is buzzing and though I think Colin Firth is a shoe in - Geoffrey Rush deserves a shout out for his stellar performance. A must see film.

Excellent.

Solid movie! Firth and Rush have incredible chemistry in their scenes, and Carter is great as the supportive wife. I couldn't believe how funny and intelligent this film was! The acting was flawless, the story entertaining and excellent direction. Definitely one of the best movies of the year!

The movie was great: the way that Lionel brought out the King's anger was well done. The scene in which the King and Queen go to Lionel's house for the King to have a session but Lionel does not tell his wife that the Queen will be having tea in her kitchen is priceless! I respect that Lionel has to keep patient confidentiality, but it was blown when his wife found out. Much too funny. The scene in which Lionel asks him if he even knows the 'F' word was very good as well. The movie is definitely worth seeing. I was fortunately able to get complimentary tickets for an early preview, but hope to see it again soon with some other friends who have not seen it. My parents loved it as wel

This is an excellent movie. It isn't often that you go to the theatre to see a movie and the whole theatre claps at the end of the picture but it happened with this movie. great performances by all. Colion Firth should win the Oscar for his performance.

User review rating: 5 January 06, 2011

This was a terrific movie. Casting and acting was great and I thought all three leads were outstanding in their roles. Extremely well done!!

User review rating: 5 January 06, 2011

Intelligently written, superbly acted. Geffrey Rush was an excellent choice to play the speech therapist. A nice break from the usual commercial dribble.

After all the hype (or perhaps because of it), I found this movie rather disappointing. The acting was solid, but somehow, even though I love historical movies and don't usually need any action or plot to engage in a story, I found myself getting bored. It was like they were telling the story from an angle that totally missed the point. I kept waiting for the real story to begin.

User review rating: 5 January 06, 2011

Not being one who usually goes for the "True Story" movies, I was blown away by how this movie grabs you and keeps you entertained throughout the film. I was fortunate to be in attendance (as Anti-Piracy Security) for the Premiere at TIFF where they celebrated Colin Firth's 50th Birthday! DEFINITELY a must-see film, I worked the movie twice during TIFF and still paid to see it when it finally came out in theaters.

Great acting.

This story of King George VI and his struggle with his speech impediment of stuttering was flawless in its delivery. Colin Firth's portrayal of King George is wonderful, giving the audience a close up view of the life of royalty and the struggle and emotions behind someone who lives daily with such a speech impediment as stuttering. Geoffrey Rush plays Lionel Logue the speech therapist hired to help the future King this debilitating problem. The supporting cast was brilliant as well! Two huge thumbs up for this wonderful move! If you only go to one movie this year - make it this one.
