The arrival of mining company Osisko created quite a stir in the small community of Malartic in Abitibi. Many of the locals, including families and elderly people, were forced to sell their homes and move away due to the Mining Act, which prioritizes the right to the exploitation of underground resources rather than the right to property. Not only did the mining company destroy homes, but many of the community's historical landmarks, including schools and churches.
