Annie Wilson (Cate Blanchett) bears the gift of psychic vision. Recently widowed, Annie struggles to support herself and her three sons in the small town of Brixton, Georgia by giving psychic readings to a few of the locals; like advising Valerie (Hilary Swank) to leave her her abusive husband (Keanu Reeves).
When the drowned body of a missing woman (Katie Holmes) is found, she uses her powers to help the police figure out who may have been the killer.
