Film director Thomas Lang (Daniel Brühl) is hired to adapt a book to film about the controversial trial of American student Jessica Fuller, who is accused of murdering of her English roommate. To research, Thomas travels to Siena, Italy, where he's astounded by the media frenzy surrounding the case.
After visiting the crime scene and studying the case, Thomas finds the evidence is so contradictory that the murder will be extremely difficult to solve, if not impossible. He meets American journalist Simone (Kate Beckinsale), who introduces him to British tabloid journalist Joe (John Hopkins). Questioning the motives of all those who are involved, Thomas descends into his own personal torment, but is rescued by his friendship with a young, guileless British student, Melanie (Cara Delevigne).
Inspired by the book Angel Face by Barbie Latza Nadeau and based on the true-life story of American Amanda Knox, who was accused of the murder of her British roommate Meredith Kercher in Italy.
