Good story line and well acted.
It was great, interesting and better than I thought.
Loved it. Want to read the book now!
the book thief is a marvelous film. I did told four of my friend that they need to go see it. The photography is spectacular and the period is well fifune with a lot of subtility
It was really good, very inspiring
Very touching, captivating and inspiring story. The images are very beautiful and powerful.I would recommend it without hesitation.
Great drama for everyone to enjoy!
A story that is somewhat sentimentally yet beautifully told. Something that the whole family can see together- both learning from and enjoying. A bit rare these days. This young actress is definitely one to watch .
I studies history in University, and my concentration was in European history during WWI and WWII. This movie centers around WWII and Hitler, the holocaust, and the Nazis, and the people who lived during these times. The movie was narrated interestingly, and seems to follow many conventions from the book. It's definitely heavy subject matter, and I'm not sure if I was prepared. Excellent acting from all actors, and well-written, and excellent direction... very fitting for a Remembrance Day theme....deals poetically yet realistically with the horrible atrocities of war/death etc. Emotionally intense movie. Go see this movie if you read the book, are interested in movies with this theme, o
Very good film and well done!
The book thief is about a clever and curious girl living in Germany during world war 2, however the story does not mostly focus on the war, but on the young girl herself as she seems to cheat death. The movie held a lot of humour, maybe too much for a movie of this subject. In one of the final most dramatic scenes, I found myself waiting for the punchline to drop. Perhaps the best of the movie for me would be the chilling VoiceOver throughout the film, a reminder that the mysterious character who greets us in the beginning of the film, is always watching. Everyone gave a solid performance in this movie, and it is visually striking, however I left feeling unsure of the movie for some reason.
Stellar performance by the very young Ms Sophie Nelisse. Geoffrey Rush was in incredible fine form and Emily Watson was so engrossed in her role that I barely recognized her. The storyline provided sensitive insight into life behind the lines who's time has come. My guest had only one negative to add in that they felt the narrative detracted from the film. Two thumbs up!
A touching and inspiring movie about loss, resilience and hope. Geoffrey Rush does an excellent job of portraying the kind-spirited adoptive father. Sophie Delisse offers a superb debut performance.
Fan-FREAKIN-tastic!!! A must see!!
The book thief is the movie I've been most excited to see since I heard they were making it into a movie. Fortunately, it did not disappoint! The characters on the page were brought to life by an impeccable cast. There was laughter and tears and when I exited the theater I felt the same emotions as when I read the book. Thank you for the opportunity to watch this film, I have already rev commended it to many of my friends.
I was really moved in so many ways by all the characters in this film and in particular the way the story was treated not in an overly dramatic way. The real way which is dramatic enough. An experience for all to see. Well done!
I had the chance this week to see The Book Thief and was very impressed. It is a beautiful story of a young girl sent to live with an adopted family during WW2 in Germany, as she embarks on a journey of knowledge, love, and friendship. Well acted, heartbreaking at moments, but wonderful tale of the human spirit.
I was expecting to see an okay movie but instead saw a pretty good film. The Book Thief held my attention from beginning to end. Some of the dialog was predictable but not enough to be annoying. Yes I would recommend this film to friends.
good story line and stunning performance by Geogrey Rush
History comes alive in this riveting portrayal of Nazi Germany as seen through the eyes of a child who is wrenched from her birth mother. As Liesel, Sophie Nelisse is luminous as the little girl who is first befriended by a local boy and then learns to befriend a Jew. It is a powerful story about love, betrayal and the enduring appeal of literature.
A well acted movie that connects emotionally - a welcome alternative to the Hollywood blockbuster. However, it treads a bit too lightly over the horrors of Nazi Germany.
The historically accurate small-town sets provide a background for convincing performances by the cast. Sophie Nélisse is outstanding as the spunky/vulnerable young girl Liesel in the title role.
This movie was excellent. I believe that it gave a true outlook on a child that would have been growing up in this era.
It is beautiful story about friendship and humanity always come first no matter in what situation people live. Nice people always have good heart.
The movie is sure an eye opener on the realities of war. There is so much sufferings It affects the lives of both the aggressors and the victims. It is depicted very well in the movie
great acting by the cast. very moving film.
This movie was great and totally unexpected and was entertaining from the beginning to the end.
The Book Thief was much more enjoyable than I thought it would be. It has the drama and intrigue of a story set in the Nazi period in Germany and the fear that the main characters live every day as the Nazis assert their control and bring destruction down on Germany and in particular on the small town where the characters live. At the centre of the film is Liesl, a young girl whose communist parents have disappeared. Other important characters are Liesl`s foster parents, the boy next door and a young man that her stepfather is obligated to take in and hide in the basement. Liesl is illiterate and can sign her name on the school blackboard only with X’s. However, her kindly stepfather
I have never read the book, but I really enjoy the movie.
One of those few superb films that are a must-see...and if you can read **the book** before hand even better(!) Sophie Nélisse, Rush, Watson etc put their hearts into it.
It's a good movie
I enjoyed this movie's mix of drama and humour but I felt it was cut short with a unsatisfying ending
The movie was Fabulous. I found it to be a great adaptation of the book, with a superb casting all around. I loved all the characters portrayed, but Sophie Nelisse and Nico Liersch touched my soul with their talent as Liesel and Rudy. I believe the movie reached its goal of capturing the spirit and the emotional complexity of the book, of this story. Absolutely loved it.
The Book Thief was such a joy and of course sadness with an overall gift of laughter and true friendship and love. This proves we all need friendship and love in a time of need.
This movie was very insightful, very intense and emotional during several parts of the viewing..It did contain laughs at times and suspense. I would certainly purchase it when it sells on DVD.
The Book Thief is a lovely movie about a girl living in a dangerous time. It's 1938 when Liesl goes to live with her new foster parents. She slowly adjusts to her new life while the Nazi party grows in power. We see ordinary German citizens going about their lives and trying to survive. It should have been depressing but it's not. We see how small acts of kindness could cause trouble later but also how they could give others hope.
Good performance. Characters well played. Heartfelt and touching story. Enjoyed the movie.
Moving and wonderful.
A moving story based on the best selling novel, love and life goes on in the darkest time during World war II.
A wonderful, touching and a warm story about World War II from a young girl's perspective. Excellent acting performances by a solid acting assemble that included Geoffrey Rush, Emily Watson, and a young Sophie Nélisse. Amazing set and camera work and definitely worth seeing.
Poignant story in wartime Germany. Heartfelt and touching story.
The movie was very powerful and strong. Showed both sides and the horror of war and violence that can erupt. The actors were good and talented. It was almost like you were really in Germany and feeling the terror. The security people at the Cinema were great too with nice staff as well. Thanks for the opportunity and free tickets.
I very enjoy the movie. Good story line and nice picture.
The acting in this movie was terrific. I'm glad I was able to watch this movie. Stellar performance by Geoffrey Rush and Emma Watson
It was a perfectly lovely movie with all the right mix of bittersweet story.
Great performances by all actors, beautiful photography and a very touching story all contribute to a nowadays rare and inspiring movie experience.
The movie is such a great adaptation of the book. The performances are outstanding especially Geoffrey Rush and Sophie Nélisse. The Book Thief is such a wonderful film.
Amazing story and Oscar worthy performance by all.
A heart-warming story about friendship, family values, loss, funny, poetic, set in the middle of war. Characters are portrayed effectively making them endearing to the viewers. I highly recommended the movie!
Wonderful film that touches your heart in so many ways. Surely an big award winner, particularly Geoffry Rush who is outstanding. A must see movie for everyone.
