Emily (Liana Liberato) is invited by her boyfriend Randall (Noah Le Gros) for a weekend getaway at his family's beachside summer house in Massachusetts. It's the off-season, so they don't expect anyone else to be around. However, Randall neglects to tell his parents that he's going to stay there with Emily. When they arrive, they discover his parents have lent the place for the weekend to their old friends, Jane (Maryann Nagel) and Mitch Turner (Jake Weber).
Although it's an awkward situation at first, the couple decide that there's room enough for all. They have dinner together and Randall shares some edibles he picked up on the way there. Soon after, they notice a mysterious fog coming off the water, moving towards the house. Except, it's not actually fog...
