In 2015, the trial of 94-year-old Oskar Gröning, nicknamed "The Accountant of Auschwitz," began in Luneberg, a small town in Germany. During the three years he worked at the infamous concentration camp, Gröning was responsible for cataloging the property extracted from more than 300,000 victims.
The Gröning trial, held 70 years after the end of the war, revived the eternal debate on the need and the way to punish Nazi war criminals. Several speakers continue to wonder why, of the 800,000 SS who survived the war, only 124 have been brought to justice.
