Interesting movie but Emmy didn`t sing enough

A friend told me about this movie so I decided to see it. At first I really didn`t think I would like it. Three minutes into the movie I was hooked! I love it! I loved the old songs and enjoyed the scenery and log cabins! The scene where you hear the panther is spooky. It even made the hair on my dogs back stand up!

Songcatcher would have been best served as a movie simply about music, but it becomes too ambitious. A subplot, about Elna and her lesbian relationship with a fellow schoolteacher, could have worked had it not been for other issues -- adultery, discrimination and greed -- that were brought into the mix. Between lovers going for romps in the woods, buildings being torched, marital disputes erupting, and murders taking place, the rich history of Appalachia is muddied. The ballads we hear throughout the movie are stories about love, family and hardship. There s already so much to these centuries-old songs that the gimmicks could have been le
