Ellison, a crime novelist (Ethan Hawke) who's having a hard time coming up with an idea for his next book moves his family into a house where an entire family was once murdered. He comes across a box of home videos that show other families being brutally murdered.
Ellison tries to figure out what happened by watching the videos and when he discovers a supernatural entity may have been involved, he realizes his family in danger.
