Ruined, sick and isolated at her home in the country, author Francoise Sagan re-examines her life. In 1954, while still a teenager, her first novel was published, "Bonjour tristesse," which brought her fame and fortune. With her friends Jacques, Florence and Bernard, she carries on a frivolous existence, gambling away her money at the casino. After a serious car accident, she marries Guy Schoeller, a much older editor, but their marriage barely lasts a year.
Following the birth of her son Denis, from a relationship with an American expatriate, she begins a longterm relationship with fashion editor Peggy Roche. When the latter dies, Francoise, now an alcoholic and drug addict, is pursued by the tax department.
