When Heather Rovet meets a man named Jace Parratti, he piques her interest. He comes to her house to do a bathroom renovation, and his patter and good looks are enough to intrigue her. He claims to have owned a company that took him to work in China and Japan as well as other countries, but he decided one day to get back to basics and work with his hands. Even though she notices a towel rack he installed is crooked, she agrees to go out on a date with him.
It's months later before she discovers that his real name is Jason Porter and he's been stealing from her and her family, while courting other women through multiple dating sites, scamming them as well. Heather gets in touch with other victims of his cons, and along with fascinating archival footage and dramatic reconstructions, a criminal underbelly of modern dating is exposed, as well as the sophisticated tactics used by romance scammers. The series culminates in Heather's courageous fight for justice.
